NorWester Coaches Mission Statement:

"Our reason for coaching is to assist each athlete develop his or her potential in the sport of track & field and help each achieve performance based goals. In doing so we also strive to assist with or influence the development of each athlete's attitudes, values, ethics and morals for a quality life after competition."

NorWester Coaching Philosophy:

Coaching athletes is an opportunity to make a difference in athlete's lives. This carries a significant responsibility to be the best we can be both as a coach and an individual. Therefore it is imperative to have a good understanding of who we are, why we coach and how we coach. Realizing that we do have an impact on the athletes that we coach, we endeavour to impart passion for sport and life to inspire and motivate each athlete to reach his or her potential.

Coaching, however, is much more than being a positive role model. As a coach we feel it is necessary to know the essence of each individual athlete. Without knowing each athlete's values, attitudes, motives and needs it is not possible to address the most appropriate training approach that will achieve optimal performances from the individual.

It is also necessary to be aware of how our sport is currently viewed in the context of other sports. Recruitment and retention are major concerns that cannot be overlooked if our sport is to grow. Coaches play a significant role in the growth of sport.

And finally we believe a coach must be current with concepts of sport science, coaching methodology and what is happening in our sport. In this regard we strive to access the facilities and resources that will enable athletes to have the best and most suitable development program.
